Polar Bears Deal Pierogis 4-2 Defeat
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis got a superb performance from pitcher Mané Garrincha, but the Billings Polar Bears still won the game, 4-2. Garrincha threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The winner in relief was Jorge Bernard. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 4-2. Todd Jackson locked down his 9th save.
Billings took a 4-0 lead on Andy Strickland's 7th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Squirrel Hill pitcher Nathan May in the top of the seventh.
After the game, Billings manager Marvin Nelson applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The last-place Pierogis have lost 4 straight games.
