Pierogis Deal Polar Bears 3-2 Setback

Behind a solid performance from center fielder Mike Holmes, the Squirrel Hill Pierogis defeated the Billings Polar Bears, 3-2. Holmes was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Pierogis. Wes Johnston, the winner, goes to 4-2. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts over 7.2 innings. The Pierogis are now 15-20, while the Polar Bears fall to 17-18.
Squirrel Hill needed the clutch hitting of John Clay to notch the win. The shortstop hammered a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pierogis on top, 3-2. For the game, Clay had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
