Mangos Get One-Run Win at Washington
|
Starting pitcher Boyd Vélez pitched well enough to help the Kingston Mangos beat the Washington Generals, 4-3. Vélez went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. His record improves to 2-0. Sing Song collected his 2nd save.
Kingston used the timely hitting of Lucas Lerwill to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mangos on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Kingston manager William Smith. "It's usually not just one thing."
The loss drops Washington to 1-4.
