The Asheville Highlanders defeated the Tacoma Fur Traders, 7-5, at Ballpark of Tacoma today. Leading the charge for Asheville was third baseman Rutger McGroarty. He went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Asheville reliever Christiansen Chemnitz picked up the win to move to 8-4. Jorge Vázquez suffered the loss. Picking up the save was Michael Weber, his 1st.

The game turned with one out in the top of the fourth when McGroarty hit a 3-run home run. It propelled the Highlanders into the lead, 4-1.

"We'll enjoy this win," said McGroarty. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

Asheville is now 36-53, Tacoma 47-42.
