|
Getting offensive support from George Hamilton, the Asheville Highlanders topped the St. Petersburg Thunder, 7-4. Hamilton was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk for the Highlanders. The winner was Ramón Vázquez in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Bill Miller took the loss. Chong-yee Galván closed it out for his 11th save.
Had Juan Sapinoso not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Sapinoso hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 7-4, in favor of the Highlanders.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Sapinoso said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Asheville now owns a record of 25-33.
