Irving pitcher Juan Gonzáles did his part in helping his team beat the Marquette Miners, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jim Nasium recorded the save, his 7th. The Blue Sox raised their record to 20-28.

The Blue Sox got a big at-bat from center fielder Kenny Jones, who in the bottom of the third hit a run-scoring double. It was his 6th double of the season and put the Blue Sox on top, 2-0.

"Juan -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Blue Sox manager Willie Mitchell. "He was the key to us winning."
