Highlanders Go Down to Defeat, 5-3
|
Yakima picked up a win at Hops Park, toppling the Asheville Highlanders, 5-3. Pitcher Thomas Rivers was one of the reasons the Hops triumphed. The save went to Donald Houston, his 16th this season. The first-place Hops have a record of 28-16.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Don Barnes came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Asheville pitcher Steve Richards, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Yakima on top, 3-2.
Barnes called the triumph "a good team win."
