With left fielder Jim McClain leading the charge, the St. Petersburg Thunder defeated the Yakima Hops, 8-3, at Baby Thunder Dome. McClain, who is tied for 10th in the 3AA in total bases with 58, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. St. Petersburg reliever Bill Miller got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Jimmy DeCourey was tagged with the loss. The first-place Thunder have won 6 straight games.

Jorge Marquis contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner on 1st, he hit a double. It was one at-bat that helped St. Petersburg get the win.

"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said St. Petersburg manager Emílio Sáenz.
