Hops Park was the site of a tense game between the Irving Blue Sox and Yakima Hops.
Yakima starter William Kennedy pitched well against the Irving Blue Sox at Hops Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. Kennedy, now 2-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Donald Houston was credited with the save for Yakima, his 10th of the season.
Shawn Maldonado drove in one run for Yakima. The 23-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jeffrey Eckert. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Yakima manager Gerald Clark.
The Hops, at 17-8, lead by one game in their division.
