Highlanders Suffer 7-3 Setback
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Asheville Highlanders and Westwood Sixshooters get after it.
The Westwood Sixshooters beat the Asheville Highlanders, 7-3, at Sixshooters Stadium. Westwood catcher Rob Fuller had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Brad Casey, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings.
Had Javier Villanueva not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Villanueva hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Sixshooters.
Fuller expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
Westwood now has a 3-game win streak.
