Squirrel Monkeys Go Down to Defeat, 7-4
|
Pennsauken and Syracuse duked it out and the Flyers came out victorious.
Getting a good performance from center fielder Lesmana Layar, the Pennsauken Flyers defeated the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys, 7-4. Layar was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for the Flyers. Ethan Gilbert, the winning pitcher, is now 5-7. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 2.
With Pennsauken leading 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Layar hit a 2-run single off Syracuse hurler Steve Gourin. It was the 30th hit of the season for Layar and put his team ahead, 4-1.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Layar.
Pennsauken is now 41-50, Syracuse 56-35.
