The Forest City Warriors got a superb performance from pitcher Claude Stevens. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Austin. The Black Mambas won the game, 3-2. Stevens threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Walton Gibbs. He is now 3-4. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Dave Newman collected save number 3.

Had Denny Wolfe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Wolfe hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Black Mambas.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Austin skipper Santiago Rigney.

The victory puts Austin at 22-46.
