Big Day for Wise as Starks Down Flyers, 10-5
|
The Pennsauken Flyers and Syracuse Starks were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Syracuse Starks defeated the Pennsauken Flyers, 10-5. Doing his part was left fielder Lou Wise, who went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Hank Garrett, the winner, goes to 5-3. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
With Syracuse leading 5-1 in the top of the fourth, Wise came up to bat against Pennsauken pitcher Ernesto Bañuelos. Wise hit a fastball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Starks on top, 9-1.
"We came out aggressive," said Starks manager Ramón García. "We came out swinging the bats."
The Starks raised their record to 39-28.
