Hartford rode a good effort from starter Byron McCormick to beat the Sioux Falls Red Pandas at Pride Park. The final score was 3-1. McCormick, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 9, and allowing 1 run. Francisco Díaz collected his 8th save.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but Wayland Whitlock didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Sioux Falls trailing 2-1, Whitlock retired Rich Dalzell to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Whitlock, with a wink.
The win elevated the Pride to 18-17.
