Long Hurls Perfect Game against Hops
Monday, September 16th , 2047
So rare that it is more a figment of the imagination than an actual possibility for a professional ballplayer, the near-mythical perfect game became reality for Nick Long today.
The Ottawa Nationals left-hander dominated the Yakima Hops at Nationals Park, securing the 7-0 Nationals victory and a place for himself in the history books.
"As a kid I imagined pitching a perfect game, but it was only a fairy tale -- I didn't really ever expect to pitch one," Long said later, sitting in the clubhouse with a crowd of reporters. "I don't want to demean it, but I've lost games where I had better stuff than I had today. It all just fell into place in this one."
The 23-year-old Long retired all 27 Hops batters in a row. He surrendered no hits, walked none, struck out 12 and permitted no one to get on base.
