Storm Copeland and Mangos Vélez Suspended for Fight
Saturday, June 8th , 2047
Yesterday at Storm Park Jay Copeland and Boyd Vélez got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Syracuse Storm and Kingston Mangos. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Copeland will have to sit out 3 while Vélez would be given a 7-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
For the year Copeland has hit at a .198 clip with 14 RBIs, 4 home runs and 12 runs scored.
To this point in the season, Vélez shows a 0-1 record, 2 starts, 24.2 innings, 24 strikeouts and a 2.92 ERA.
