|
Northwest Territory first baseman Les Gillett had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Gillett went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, even as Bompton beat the Beavers, 6-5. Katsunosuki Hirayama collected his 5th save. Bompton, at 67-24, is 10 games up in the Silver R.
Bompton used the timely hitting of Javier Chávez to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Baby Lakers on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments to the Bompton Gazette, Chávez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
