Lakers Get Past Pittsburgh for 2-1 Win
|
The Echo Park Lakers had to overcome a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Martin Elzey to grab a narrow 2-1 win at LA Forum. Elzey went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Lance Barber notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 4-4. The Lakers move to 21-22 with the win, while the Kingfishers drop to 19-24.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Joe Schreibvogel came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Mike Davidson, he hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Echo Park on top, 2-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Schreibvogel said after the game.
