Dirty Reds Come Up Short at Detroit, 6-5
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Detroit Elite eventually prevailed.
The Detroit Elite weathered a fine game by San Mateo designated hitter Todd Walker to upend the Dirty Reds, 6-5, at Detroit Stadium. Walker went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The third-place Elite raised their record to 19-16.
Detroit second baseman Mark Thomas contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into right-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 22nd hit of the season and put the Elite ahead, 5-4.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Thomas said after the game.
