The Redwood Rhinos inaugurated their 2047 season with a tough 2-1 loss to the Germantown Uruguayans at The Zoo. Starting Pitcher Claudio Cortés had perhaps the best performance for Germantown. In 7 innings, Cortés surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run.
Germantown used the timely hitting of Daniel Wagner to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Uruguayans on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments to the Germantown Herald, Cortés said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
