The San Mateo Dirty Reds defeated the D.C. Divided, 8-0, at Washington Stadium. San Mateo center fielder Ricardo Hernández had a superb performance. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Sylvain Richard, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held D.C. to no runs on 3 hits over 6.2 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The Dirty Reds, now 8-3, have played some good baseball in the early going.

With San Mateo leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Hernández hit a fastball from Scott Morrison for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Dirty Reds ahead, 4-0.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Hernández told the San Mateo Today. "It's as simple as that."
