Pollard Excels, But Hawks Win
|
Despite a great performance by Washington center fielder Ron Pollard, the Laredo Hawks defeated the Generals by the score of 6-4 at Washington Park. Pollard was 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winner was Richard Wood in relief. His record improves to 5-0. Jorge Vázquez took the loss. Bastien Martinez closed the game out for Laredo, earning his 9th save.
Laredo used a clutch hit from Qing-lai Mak to snatch the win. The left fielder belted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hawks ahead, 6-2. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Mak told the Laredo Daily.
The win puts Laredo at 23-22 this season.
