Ralph Thornton did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Syracuse Storm from losing, 4-3, to the Belleville Bulls at Storm Park. Thornton was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Jaime Ortega, credited with the win, is now 3-1. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Earning his 26th save of the year was José Trujillo.
Belleville got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Dennis Lowery. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Bulls ahead, 4-3. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Lowery said.
Belleville is now 50-46, Syracuse 41-55.
