Paynter Hits Two Dingers, Hermit Crabs Win, 9-7
|
The Huntington Hermit Crabs beat the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, 9-7, at Smokies Stadium. The Hermit Crabs got a fine performance from third baseman Craig Paynter, who was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. Juan Ramírez, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. The Hobeaus, now 6-13, continue their slow start.
Paynter contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Huntington in the top of the sixth. With his team trailing 7-4, Paynter took a fastball from Kulani Wirrin and stroked the home run to left. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Hermit Crabs to leap in front, 8-7.
"I like our mindset right now," said Huntington manager Mike Evans.
