Hermit Crabs Come Up Short at Pontiac, 6-5
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Pontiac Copperdome, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2047 USSL Single A season. On the mound was Michael Galloway for the visiting Huntington Hermit Crabs and José Martínez for the hometown Pontiac Godfathers. In a spirited contest, the Godfathers pulled out the win, defeating the Hermit Crabs by the score of 6-5. Especially impressive was Alanzo Gaufi. Steve Barnes got the save, the 1st for him this season.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pontiac catcher Zachary Spilsbury had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, Spilsbury stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 4-3, Pontiac. For the game, he was 2-4 with 2 singles.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Spilsbury said.
