The Squirrel Hill Pierogis did just enough to sneak past the Virginia Beach Whales, 3-2, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Squirrel Hill pitcher Natalino Gasco, in particular, had a standout performance. The Pierogis go to 33-60 with the win.
Squirrel Hill used the bat of Kane Blackwood to get the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Blackwood called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
