Floundering Miners Lose 7th Straight
|
Marquette Stadium was the site for USSL Double A action featuring the Marquette Miners and Gwinnett Guinea Pigs.
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs topped the Marquette Miners, 7-2, in USSL Double A action at Marquette Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Gwinnett pitcher and Rodas, Cuba, native Salvador Heredia. Gwinnett reliever Francisco Díaz was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Jorge Castillo.
Gwinnett used the timely hitting of Will Blalock to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Guinea Pigs on top, 6-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Gwinnett manager Tabor de Maria.
The Miners, at 38-55, have lost 7 in a row.
