The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Barton Springs Blues, 6-5. Doing his part was second baseman Leonardo Valdéz, who was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Virginia Beach reliever Ricardo Corona picked up the win, while Graviel Azevedo took the loss for Barton Springs. Bill Gould got credit for the save for Virginia Beach. It was his 13th of the year.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Hong-bo Chu to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Whales on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We take it day by day here," said Chu, "and today was a good one for us."

The victory gives Virginia Beach a record of 38-35.
