Led by Lee Montgomery, the Virginia Beach Whales downed the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 10-2. Montgomery went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Whales. The win was credited to Matt Cornett in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Mike Holmes took the loss. The victory gives Virginia Beach a record of 32-27.

The Whales got an important contribution from left fielder Dan Parker, who in the top of the eighth punched a 1-1 slider into right for a 3-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Whales ahead, 9-2.

"Enjoyed this one," Parker told the Virginia Beach Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
