Fur Traders Lose, 6-3; No End to Nosedive
|
Squirrel Hill Pierogis starter Clayton Thomas was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Tacoma Fur Traders, 6-3. Thomas, the winner, moves to 3-4. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. Jack Herer earned the save, his 7th, for the Pierogis.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Tao Kaukini? The Squirrel Hill second baseman had a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pierogis on top, 5-1. For the game, Kaukini had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Thomas told a Squirrel Hill Observer reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The losing streak for Tacoma has now reached 8 games.
