The Squirrel Hill Pierogis beat the Virginia Beach Whales, 9-4, at Field of the Rawhides. The win was due in part to shortstop Piedade Regueir, who was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Javier Gómez got the save, the 1st for him this season. The Pierogis raised their record to 15-29.

Squirrel Hill took a 9-3 lead on Regueir's 6th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which he hit off Matt Cornett in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Squirrel Hill to the win.

"I know we have our doubters," said Virginia Beach manager Domingo García. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
