The Virginia Beach Whales trumped the Barton Springs Blues, 12-5, at Blues Field. Virginia Beach first baseman Gregory Jones was terrific. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Daryl Benstead, the winner, goes to 2-2. He allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts over 7 innings. The Blues, now 6-10, continue their slow start.

With Virginia Beach leading 6-5 in the top of the seventh, Jones hit a run-scoring single off Barton Springs hurler Harley Hawk. It was the 21st hit of the season for Jones and put his team ahead, 7-5.
