José Cruz was superb against Lancaster. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the 3AA in strikeouts with 82, had a curveball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Blimps victory. The score was 4-1. Cruz, now 4-3, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 10, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. With the win, Akron upped its record to 42-39.

In the top of the eighth, Marcos Martínez stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Farmers were trailing 4-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when Ward Brooks made a terrific pitch and Martínez struck out. Gone was the dream of a Lancaster comeback.
