Blimps Prevail, 5-4, Over Yakima
|
The Akron Blimps did just enough to sneak past the Yakima Hops, 5-4, at Goodyear Hanger Dome. Akron designated hitter Ole Geenen, in particular, had a standout performance. The win was credited to Ward Brooks in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Keith Brown took the loss. Bill Williams earned save number 18 this season.
Geenen had a timely hit for Akron in the bottom of the seventh. With Yakima trailing 4-2, he turned a first pitch fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season, making it 5-4, Akron.
In comments to the Akron Chronicle, Geenen admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Akron raised its record to 38-31 with the win.
