Hops Snatch Late Win
|
The Yakima Hops faced a tough opponent in Irving pitcher Luis Quintana, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Blue Sox Ballpark by a final score of 6-3. Quintana went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win belongs to Ed Saunders in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Eugene Huggins took the loss for Irving. The win elevated the Hops to 13-13.
Yakima used a timely hit from Allen Shaw to get the win. The shortstop stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hops ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Shaw told a Yakima Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
