The Austin Black Mambas got a sterling performance from pitcher Kyle Horton, but the Monongahela Monsters still prevailed, 2-1. Horton threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Kirby Perkins picked up the win in relief for Monongahela, while Kyle Horton took the loss. Nathan May earned the save for Monongahela, his 6th.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Stanley Good's at-bat with no one out in the top of the ninth was crucial. The Monongahela designated hitter drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Monongahela manager José González.
The loss makes Austin 40-41.
