Monsters Prevail, 4-3, Over Ellenburg
|
The Monongahela Monsters racked up a win at Timber Hawks Ballpark, bumping off the Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds, 4-3. Ángel Santingo, who started for Monongahela, pitched effectively for his team. Santingo, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Nathan May earned the save for Monongahela, his 2nd of the year.
The Fighting Dachsunds had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Monsters going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old first baseman Martín Flores came to the plate. Flores hit a 2-run home run on a 2-1 cutter from Ellenburg hurler Zi-cheng Pei. It was Flores's 11th home run of the year.
"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Santingo after the game.
The win lifted the Monongahela record to 18-18.
