Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys got the win.
Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys starter José Guerrero pitched a strong game against the Monongahela Monsters at The Zoo in Syracuse, leading the Squirrel Monkeys to victory, 4-2. Guerrero, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Georges Cormier locked down his 8th save.
Nathan Shallcross, the Syracuse right fielder, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 3-2, Squirrel Monkeys. For the game, Shallcross went 1 for 3 with a walk.
After the game, Syracuse manager Stu Henderson applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The Squirrel Monkeys, at 20-11, have now won 4 straight.
