In a high-scoring contest between Austin and Norfolk, second baseman Donnie Haggard was a difference-maker. Haggard, who is tied for 5th in the SAAA with a 1.034 OPS, distinguished himself in the 10-8 Austin win. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Austin reliever Patrick Ibáñez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Vicente Medina took the loss. Austin is off to a hot start at 9-4.
It could have been a different outcome for Austin, had it not been for Donald Martin, the 29-year old center fielder . Martin contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Austin up, 3-2.
"Donnie is still learning," said Black Mambas manager Juan Cuestas. "The sky's the limit for him."
