Black Mambas Beat Monongahela, 3-2

The Austin Black Mambas topped the Monongahela Monsters, 3-2, in USSL Triple A action at Mamba Park. The standout performance belonged to Austin pitcher and Staten Island, New York, native Steve Denton. Tadayuki Ito, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Walton Gibbs got the save, the 5th for him this season.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Donnie Haggard came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Monongahela pitcher Freddy León, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Austin on top, 3-2.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Monongahela manager José González said following the tough loss.
Austin goes to 7-0.
