Guinea Pigs Bump Off Pierogis, 6-3
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs trumped the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 6-3, at Experimental Stadium. Gwinnett first baseman Charles MacMurdo was terrific. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Homer Sanders was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The loss makes Squirrel Hill 1-3.
Will Blalock was 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch for Gwinnett. The 25-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Mike Holmes. It was his 4th walk of the season.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Blalock told the Gwinnett Chronicle.
