Sacramento Makes It 6 Straight with 4-2 Win
|
The Sacramento Redlegs defeated the Calgary Lynx, 4-2, in USPL Triple A action at Lynx Stadium. Sacramento pitcher Willie Steele had a standout performance. Ewan Atwood, now 2-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Eugenio Piñeiro locked down his 9th save.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher José Altagracia came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Calgary pitcher Mario Silva, he hit a 1-2 cutter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Sacramento on top, 4-2.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Steele. "Successful pitchers do it."
The 7th-place Redlegs have won 6 in a row.
