Rainbow Mermaids Come Up Short at Long Island, 5-4
|
Northern Virginia right fielder Tom Smythe had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to Long Island at The Lighthouse. Smythe was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk. The winning pitcher was Aldo Ottens. His record is now 2-2. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits for the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse raised their record to 11-12.
The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the third inning, when the Lighthouse were trailing 1-0. Jorge Napolez delivered a two-out 2-run single for Long Island, catapulting his team into the lead.
Napolez called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
