Gutiérrez Hurls No-Hitter Against Atoms
Friday, August 17th , 2046
Excitement reigned at Atoms Field today as Mercer Island Screaming Eagles hurler Luis Gutiérrez tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.
After defeating the Bethesda Atoms, 3-0, he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments.
"I'm just glad to be here," Gutiérrez said. "Today I just went right at the Atoms as hard as I could, as long as I could."
Gutiérrez chalked up 16 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks in his superb performance.
"I don't think they could have stopped him with a howitzer today," said Mercer Island manager Vincent Parker.
Gutiérrez has made 16 starts so far this year and put up a 8-3 won-lost record with a 3.49 ERA. In 98 innings he has allowed 76 hits, walked 29 and struck out 121.
