Rice Struts Stuff in Win Over Eugene
Friday, July 20th , 2046
The Eugene Vandals were almost helpless today in their 1-0 loss to the Delmarva Gallos and hurler Thomas Rice. Rice kept the Vandals confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Rice," Eugene manager Aaron Barnes said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 21-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 12 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Rice said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
Checking out his stats for the year, Rice has racked up 2 wins and 8 losses in 12 starts, 3.35 ERA and struck out 59 batters in 83.1 innings.
