The stakes were high. Jeff Morehead was ready.

The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at The Shell today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Huntington Hermit Crabs to victory in Game 1 of the SL A Championship. Morehead held the Grim Reapers to 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 9. The win got the best-of-5 series off to a good start for Huntington, which now leads 1-0.

Morehead tossed 107 pitches over 9 innings to clinch the win for the Hermit Crabs. The right-hander allowed just 3 hits, while racking up 9 strikeouts in the game.

"I'll be honest," said Morehead. "I didn't have much left in the tank."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Shell in Huntington.
