Seahawks Fall to Blaze, 5-4
|
Myrtle Beach left fielder Ralph Thornton had a good game, even if his team did not. The Seahawks dropped a 5-4 decision to South Beach at The Ballpark on the Beach. Thornton went 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 times. George Hawkins, now 8-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 1.1 innings. The Blaze have an impressive 51-28 record.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Joe Hurley came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Myrtle Beach pitcher Alejandro Rosado, he hit a 3-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting South Beach on top, 4-3.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hurley.
