Blaze Need Extra Frames to Get Past Hawks
The Laredo Hawks got a superb performance from pitcher Kevin Horton. Still, it wasn't enough to beat South Beach. The Blaze won the game, 5-3. Horton threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The win was credited to Tommy Casey in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Norman Davis took the loss. South Beach is now 45-27, 4 games up in the Premier A.

The most important at-bat for South Beach came in the top of the tenth inning, when center fielder Bill Zimmerman stroked a 1-1 fastball to right for a run-scoring single, putting South Beach up, 4-3.

"This is a very good team," said Zimmerman. "We have the chance to do something special."
