Athletic Club KC right fielder Gerardo López had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. López belted 2 home runs, even as Fort Knox beat the U-21, 4-3. Fort Knox reliever Byron Cramphorn picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jorge López shouldered the loss. Fort Knox is off to a hot start at 12-4.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Fort Knox trailing 3-2, Raúl Gutiérrez hit a changeup from Jorge López to right-center for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Centennial had a walk-off win.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Gutiérrez told the Fort Knox Observer. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
