Gómez Goes Deep Twice in 7-1 Blaze Win
|
Blaze designated hitter Jorge Gómez put his stamp on his team's 7-1 win over the Laredo Hawks. Gómez was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for South Beach in the contest. South Beach reliever Héctor Garza got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Hyung-gook Chong was tagged with the loss. South Beach is now 34-22, 2 games up in the Premier A.
South Beach took the lead in the top of the fifth when Gómez hit a 2-run home run. His 14th home run of the season made the score 3-1, South Beach.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Blaze manager Vicente Rodríguez, "I like our chances."
